UFRAW FOR GIMP 2.8.22 INSTALL
Then install UFraw, but specify install folder also as C:\Program Files\GIMP 2. It will install in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2. 0.16 (or 0.15?) converted them correctly, but 0.17 and 0.18 do not-very odd colors with the newer versions. OK, found a way to use UFraw with Gimp 2.8. *To convert images shot with my Canon compacts as raw files using CHDK. (I convert raw to TIFF with the camera manufacturer's software and then edit in GIMP.) Subscribe to my channel for more Gimp tutorials. So it works, but I prefer the software I've used that comes with the cameras (Canon, Sony, and Konica Minolta, at least-never tried Nikon's) to it, even when I'm editing in GIMP. People have had issues installing UFRaw for Gimp 2.8 on Windows 64-bit. It offers too many options with too little explanation (e.g., methods of de-mosaicing the Bayer pattern). Some of its adjustments seem awkward or counter-intuitive. It does not reset processing parameters (e.g., curves) from image to image. It does not seem to read the camera white balance, which is usually (IMO) the best place to start.
I suppose my thoughts on GIMP are: (1) don't look gift horse in the mouth (although I have-voluntarily-contributed financially) (2) for me, it is still probably the best / most powerful free photo editor (3) but the additions from 2.6 to 2.8 are mostly stuff I don't care about, and stuff I do care about (16-bit-per-channel editing, adjustment layers) is still on the distant horizon.Īs for UFRaw: I use it occasionally because I have to,* but compared to any other raw converter I've used, I don't care for it. I have not noticed that any plug-ins don't work, but haven't gone checking.
The current version works okay, but I do not like some of the user-interface changes (maybe just an issue of what I'm used to!). I have used 2.8.0 and now 2.8.2 (and old versions going back at least to 2.0.x, and maybe a 1.x).
